Description
Titanium Anode for PCB Copper Plating
A titanium anode for PCB copper plating uses a titanium substrate and a catalytic coating selected for the plating bath. Shaanxi Top Metal offers custom coated titanium electrodes, with geometry and coating requirements reviewed against your equipment drawing and operating conditions. Send your PCB plating line specifications for a quotation.
This product covers custom insoluble anodes for printed circuit board copper electroplating. Material grade, coating formulation, active area and electrical connections are confirmed in the project quotation before manufacture.
Insoluble Anodes for Printed Circuit Board Electroplating
PCB copper electroplating deposits copper onto conductive board surfaces and features under an applied current. A coated titanium anode supports the anodic reaction while copper ions are deposited at the cathode. An insoluble anode does not replenish copper by dissolving, so the line must provide a suitable copper replenishment system.
The electrode must be evaluated with the bath chemistry, electrolyte circulation and equipment layout. Uniform deposition also depends on anode-to-cathode spacing, shielding, current distribution, panel movement and process controls. Choosing an electrode alone does not guarantee a particular plating thickness or via-filling result.
Custom Plate and Mesh Electrode Design
- Substrate: titanium grade, thickness and surface preparation requirements agreed for the application.
- Geometry: plate or mesh electrode reviewed to match the cell envelope and mounting arrangement.
- Coated area: active surface and connection regions identified on the approved drawing.
- Electrical contacts: terminal positions and connection dimensions specified for your line.
- Installation: spacing, mounting holes, clearances and replacement access checked before manufacture.
Provide the mesh opening and open-area requirements if applicable. Vertical continuous plating and horizontal plating equipment have different installation interfaces. Existing drawings and photographs help define the replacement electrode scope without assuming that a standard flat plate fits every cell.
Coating Review for the Copper Plating Bath
MMO coating selection should consider the acidic copper electrolyte and the required anodic reaction. Share copper and acid concentrations, chloride content, additives, impurity limits and operating temperature. Bath additives may be affected by anodic reactions, so coating and process compatibility should be assessed with the equipment and chemistry suppliers.
For pulse or pulse-reverse plating, provide the complete waveform, including peak currents, forward and reverse periods and duty cycle. A coating specified for direct-current operation should not be assumed suitable for a reversing waveform. Performance commitments and any qualification tests must use an agreed operating basis.
Information Needed for a PCB Anode Quotation
- Application: panel plating, pattern plating or via filling, with the required equipment configuration.
- Drawing: length, width, thickness, mesh details, mounting positions, terminals and tolerances.
- Electrolyte: copper sulphate, sulphuric acid, chloride, additives, temperature and circulation conditions.
- Electrical operation: current, active area, current density, waveform and operating schedule.
- Supply scope: electrode only or additional supporting components, stated separately.
- Inspection: dimensional checks, coating records and any agreed electrochemical testing.
- Delivery: quantity, destination, packaging and requested schedule.
Price and lead time are confirmed after the technical review. If you are replacing a used electrode, include its operating history and observed condition. These details help the team discuss coating selection, installation compatibility and the proposed inspection scope.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a coated titanium anode the same as a titanium basket holding copper balls?
No. A titanium basket supports soluble copper material, while a coated titanium insoluble anode provides a catalytic electrode surface. Changing between these arrangements requires review of copper replenishment, electrolyte management and the equipment design.
Can this product be used in pulse-reverse PCB plating?
Suitability must be reviewed against the complete waveform and bath conditions. State the reversing operation in your enquiry so the coating and any required qualification work can be assessed before an order is confirmed.
What service life and current density can you offer?
These depend on coating design, electrolyte, temperature, current and duty cycle. Send your operating requirements so the proposed specifications and any performance commitments can be recorded in the quotation.
Is this product suitable for electroless copper deposition?
This enquiry page concerns electrolytic copper plating with an applied electrical current. Electroless copper deposition is a different process and should not be treated as the same electrode application.
